About the Role

Our client, WhatJobs Direct, is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Cosmetic Formulation Chemist to join their pioneering Beauty & Wellness division. This position is based in Huntsville, Alabama, US , but is designed for remote work, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and innovate new cosmetic formulations for skincare, haircare, and color cosmetics, ensuring product efficacy, stability, and safety. Conduct extensive research into raw materials, active ingredients, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for product enhancement and differentiation. Collaborate with the product development team to translate market insights and consumer needs into tangible product concepts. Oversee pilot batching and scale-up processes, working closely with manufacturing partners to ensure successful commercial production. Perform rigorous testing and analysis of raw materials and finished products to ensure they meet internal quality standards and external regulatory requirements. Troubleshoot formulation challenges and provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle. Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, formulation records, and technical reports in compliance with industry best practices. Stay abreast of global cosmetic regulations and ensure all formulations adhere to relevant standards, including FDA, REACH, and others. Present formulation concepts, progress updates, and technical findings to internal stakeholders and leadership. Mentor and guide junior chemists, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.

Requirements

Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in cosmetic formulation development within the Beauty & Wellness sector. Proven track record of successfully launching new cosmetic products from ideation to market. In-depth knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, their functions, and compatibility, as well as an understanding of surfactants, emulsifiers, polymers, and preservatives. Familiarity with various cosmetic product types (e.g., creams, lotions, serums, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, makeup). Strong understanding of cosmetic manufacturing processes and scale-up considerations. Excellent knowledge of global cosmetic regulatory requirements and compliance. Proficiency in laboratory techniques, analytical methods, and instrumentation relevant to cosmetic testing. Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote setting. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
