[Remote] Lead Software Engineer

Remote · United Kingdom Full-time

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. PESI is an organization dedicated to providing life-changing education for professionals globally. They are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to manage and support their development team while also contributing hands-on to software development and technical delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as one of the people managers for the development team — handling day-to-day coaching, feedback, and performance conversations
  • Coordinate PTO, capacity, and scheduling to ensure the team is appropriately staffed and workloads are balanced
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and energized team culture where engineers feel supported and empowered
  • Run 1:1s consistently and create a safe space for engineers to raise blockers, ideas, or concerns
  • Lead onboarding for new team members, ensuring they ramp quickly and understand SOPs, team norms, tools, and expectations
  • Contribute directly to development work as an active member of the team — writing code, reviewing pull requests, and participating in technical problem-solving
  • Apply a mixture of proven and emerging technologies, including C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, React, and TypeScript
  • Architect and build new, modern, cloud- and web-based systems that help shape the future of our business — from initial requirements gathering through deployment
  • Actively manage work assignment and task coordination across the dev team to prevent duplication, collision, or competing priorities
  • Partner closely with Product Owners, SMEs, and business experts to understand priority order and ensure the team’s work reflects agreed-upon goals
  • Facilitate and/or participate in various ceremonies including standups, planning, backlog refinements, and various ad hoc meetings in support of the Development Manager
  • Track and communicate progress on development work, surfacing risks or blockers early and keeping stakeholders informed
  • Work with project managers and IT leadership to drive software projects from initiation to delivery
  • Ensure architecture decisions, design patterns, and technical direction set by IT leadership are clearly understood and applied by the team
  • Translate technical complexity into clear guidance that engineers can act on
  • Promote best practices, coding standards, and workflows that drive consistency and quality across the codebase
  • Keep the team engaged and informed on the technology roadmap and how their work fits into the bigger picture
  • Identify and cultivate subject matter expertise within the team, encouraging engineers to develop deep knowledge in key areas
  • Field technical questions from team members and connect them with the right resources, peers, or documentation
  • Mentor developers at all levels, supporting their career growth and helping them get outside their comfort zone
  • Stay in touch with emerging technology trends and share relevant learnings with the team
  • Build a culture of continuous learning, curiosity, and collaborative problem-solving

Skills

  • 3–5+ years of experience in a technical leadership, team lead, or engineering management role
  • A genuine passion for mentoring engineers and helping them grow
  • Experience managing team capacity, PTO coordination, and workload balancing
  • A track record of building positive, high-trust team cultures
  • Experience facilitating agile ceremonies or coordinating iterative development workflows
  • Clear, direct communication skills — written and verbal, technical and non-technical
  • Ability to translate between business priorities and engineering work
  • Proactive approach to identifying blockers, risks, and misalignments before they become problems
  • A collaborative, organized mindset for managing across teams and stakeholders
  • Comfort working in fast-moving environments with evolving priorities
  • A background in adaptive, feedback-driven development even if not in formal Agile frameworks
  • A love of continuous improvement and collaborative problem-solving
  • Experience in marketing, business development, product ownership or business ownership
  • A strong understanding of how technology drives business results

Benefits

  • Flexible in-office, hybrid, or fully remote and this role does not require regular travel.
