Job Summary The Grant Writer Fellow will support SLMG CO-OP by researching grant funding opportunities for specialized education and outreach programs. Responsibilities include reviewing requests for proposals (RFPs), participating in strategy meetings, and preparing grant materials. This fellowship offers a valuable opportunity for candidates pursuing careers in Grant Management, Research, and Writing. Fellows may also be assigned additional tasks by members of the SLMG CO-OP team as needed. The ideal candidate will possess strong research and writing skills, identify relevant grant opportunities, and develop clear, compelling proposals. They will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of analyzing RFPs for strategic fit while managing multiple deadlines in a remote team environment. This is a volunteer, part-time experiential learning fellowship with a one-year commitment. Fellows are expected to contribute approximately 15 hours per week, Monday - Friday, and may work remotely from anywhere within the United States. The Grant Writer Fellow reports directly to the SLMG CO-OP Executive Director. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Research potential grant funding opportunities that align with internal and external clients
  • Draft, edit, and organize grant proposals and supporting documents.
  • Participate in strategy meetings to help plan and prioritize funding efforts.
  • Review and assess proposal concepts to determine eligibility and alignment with strategic goals by identifying key opportunities and organizational needs.
  • Track deadlines, submission requirements, and progress for ongoing and upcoming grant applications.
  • Maintain organized records of grant research, submissions, and communications with funders.

Requirements

Epeirence

  • 1 year - Experience with proposal writing, technical writing, and/or grant writing (Required)
  • 1 year - Understanding of grant writing principles and funding processes. (Required)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Familiarity with researching funding sources (Preferred)
  • Basic understanding of project planning and strategic alignment. (Preferred)
  • Strong research skills to identify and evaluate grant opportunities.
  • Proficiency with productivity tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) for document preparation and collaboration.
  • Ability to synthesize information from various sources.
  • Ability to understand and align proposals with organizational goals and funding priorities. (Preferred)
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, which has been completed within 3 years or less than the date of application (Required)
  • Current Graduate student pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Grant writing, Communication, Journalism, or a related field at an accredited college/university (Preferred)
  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Grant writing, or a related field, which has been completed within 3 years or less than the date of application (Preferred)
