MainCFO is a boutique fractional CFO firm. We pair retired and semi-retired CFOs with founder-led companies in the $3M–$25M revenue range. Our CFOs each have 20+ years of executive experience, have already reached their own milestones, and now choose to work with founders ready to reach theirs. We focus on cash flow clarity, project-level profitability, and the financial infrastructure that lets a business scale responsibly. One CFO works with a small, focused portfolio of clients — never overloaded — backed by analyst support and AI tooling so attention stays where it matters. Role Description Contract (1099), remote Fractional CFO for a construction industry client (developers, builders, or trades) in the $3M–$25M revenue range. The engagement is one client only, deeply engaged, on a 12–18 month arc. This is strategic advisory work, not execution work. You'll build cash visibility (30/60/90-day forecasts), establish project-level P&Ls, fix the gap between paper profit and bank reality, structure capital access (lines of credit, project financing, owner draws), and coach the founder through the strategic decisions that come with scaling. The bookkeeping, accounting, tax, and audit work stays with the client's existing CPA and bookkeeper — your role is advisory and strategic, the peer in the room when the founder needs to make a real decision. What This Role Includes

• Strategic financial advisory and founder coaching
• Cash flow forecasting and working capital strategy
• Project-level profitability and unit economics
• Capital structure, banking relationships, and financing strategy
• KPI dashboards, scenario modeling, and quarterly strategic reviews

What This Role Does Not Include

• Bookkeeping or data entry
• Tax preparation or filing
• Audit or attestation work
• Payroll processing
• Day-to-day accounting operations

Qualifications

• 20+ years of executive-level finance experience with prior CFO or VP Finance title
• Direct experience in construction, development, trades, or specialty contractor finance
• Strong command of WIP accounting, retainage, project-level economics, and construction working capital cycles
• Track record building financial infrastructure for owner-led businesses
• Comfortable working directly with founders, not just boards
• Exceptional communication and remote collaboration skills
• CPA, CFA, or similar certification preferred but not required

• Currently employed full-time and considering a side engagement
• Owner, partner, or principal in another fractional CFO, interim CFO, or advisory firm
• Looking to serve 3+ concurrent clients
• Without prior CFO or VP Finance title at a $25M+ company
• Looking for hands-on accounting, bookkeeping, or transactional finance work
