Supervisory Investigator

Job Title Duties Duties included at the GS-14 but are not limited to:

  • Assists OI management in the review and analysis of investigative activity requests.
  • Initiates changes in policies and procedures relative to investigative activities and program areas.
  • May assist in, or perform special high-level investigations regarding assigned areas of responsibility, at the direction of the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (AIGI) and Deputy Inspector General for Investigations (DIGI).
  • Identifies, plans, directs, coordinates and conducts extensive internal and external training and outreach relative to program areas and investigative activities.
  • Prepares reports and other documents relating to special investigations and makes oral presentations on investigative findings to the Assistant Inspector General and other high-level Department officials.
  • Conducts a wide range of special studies, research and analysis relative to issues of special concern to the region and prepares and presents briefings on these subjects.
  • Coordinates and communicates orally and in writing with officials inside and outside the Department.
  • Initiates discussion with the special agents, Assistant Special Agents in Charge (ASAC), Special Agents in Charge (SAC), Directors, OI senior management and OCIG, to clarify or resolve inconsistencies in these requests.
  • Assists in the coordination of joint training programs involving Federal and state prosecutors and investigators.
  • Helps facilitate a continuing program for the training and professional development of investigators and analysts nationwide.
  • Identifies training needs and recommends employees for training and seminars.
  • Provides program and policy direction necessary to accomplish all investigative work requirements, and to ensure compliance with all legal requirements and OI policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting with relevant inspection duties which may include but are not limited to reviewing case files, interviewing employees and internal/external stakeholders, and reviewing policy and other documentation to assure compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Serves as a focal point and key OI advisor on current, state-of-the-art techniques with respect to investigative activities and reporting systems, administrative management and HHS programs.
  • Represents OI at workshops, meetings and conferences while addressing various groups to explain IB operations and their relationship to the Department and OIG.
  • Supervises the Contracting Officer Technical Representative and project officer for outsourced support and applications.
  • Provides contract development, preparation of required statement of work, contract modification, payment authorization and evaluation of performance.
  • Conducts analysis of program activities through the review of results of investigations and projects.
