About Us: RTRT.me builds real-time race tracking and digital engagement technology for endurance events around the world. Our platform powers live tracking, participant experiences, and event operations for many of the world’s largest and most prestigious running and multi-sport events. We are a small, focused team that cares deeply about performance, reliability, and creating meaningful experiences for participants, spectators, volunteers, and event administrators. We move fast, think differently, and continuously evolve how we build. About the Role: Join a team building high-performance, real-time systems used during large-scale endurance events worldwide. Our platform processes live data, location tracking, and user engagement for millions of users, often under demanding, time-sensitive conditions. You will work across the stack to improve performance, reliability, and scalability while continuing to expand platform capabilities. This includes both developing new features and maintaining, optimizing, and evolving existing systems. We are looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, think beyond conventional approaches, and actively leverage modern tools including AI-assisted development to improve speed, quality, and overall system design. Your work will directly power experiences used by participants, spectators, volunteers, and event organizers around the world. What We’re Looking For: A forward-thinking developer who embraces new technologies and actively explores better, faster ways to build software.

  • Actively uses modern AI tools as part of their development workflow in a sane and practical way. We believe AI can dramatically accelerate work but the results are only as good as the developer commanding it.
  • Curious and driven to continuously learn, experiment, and adapt as technology evolves.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a willingness to challenge conventional approaches.
  • Passion for building new features and improving existing systems.
  • Comfortable working both from scratch and within established production systems.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear communicator who can document and explain technical decisions effectively.

Core Technical Experience:Frontend:

  • Strong experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience building responsive interfaces

Backend:

  • Experience with PHP and Node.js
  • Exposure to or interest in Elixir and modern backend architectures

Mobile:

  • Experience building mobile applications using Cordova or similar hybrid frameworks
  • Understanding of mobile web constraints and performance considerations

Engineering Approach: Comfortable working with minimal abstraction layers. Writing and maintaining custom application logic rather than relying heavily on pre-built CMS or heavy frameworks. Able to understand and work directly with underlying systems, APIs, and performance constraints. Interested in incorporating AI-driven approaches where they add real value (automation, tooling, user experience, or data insights). Development Workflow: Comfortable working in modern development environments (Git, code reviews, CI/CD, collaborative workflows). Experience integrating new tools and workflows to improve development efficiency. Nice to Have:

  • Experience with C, MongoDB, Memcached, WebSockets, HTTP/TCP APIs, Linux, and Nginx.
  • Familiar with Mapbox/MapLibre GL JS, GPS, or real-time tracking systems
  • Experience with race timing/scoring systems (RFID, etc.)
  • Native or hybrid mobile app experience (iOS/Android)
  • Multimedia or video streaming experience
  • Interest in fitness or endurance sports
  • Social media integrations

Additional Notes:

  • Portfolio or examples of your work are required (personal or professional)
  • This will start as a contract role with potential for long-term or full-time work
  • Remote-friendly, work from anywhere
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check in accordance with local laws
  • Direct applicants only (no recruiters).
