Public Health Analyst/Epidemiologist

Leidos is seeking an experienced Public Health Analyst / Epidemiologist to support the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) program for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This position supports public health surveillance, epidemiological analysis, data quality initiatives, user outreach, and technical assistance activities associated with healthcare-associated infections (HAI) prevention and reporting. Duties include using statistical software to create and maintain tabulations, graphical summaries, and formal statistical estimates and tests. Additionally, the individual will develop computer programs (primarily using R) to monitor data quality; communicate with project areas regarding study activities and protocols; analyze data for reports, presentations, and publications; assist in the review of study data for data quality and validation; support NHSN users on higher-level questions related to facility set-up, data collection, and running system reports; organize study files, including data and correspondence files; perform scientific, medical and research literature searches in fields including but not limited to Behavioral and Social Sciences, Epidemiology, and Laboratory and prepare slides for scientific presentations; provide analytic support to multi-disciplinary teams in order to accomplish public health research and program goals. Candidate MUST be a U.S. Citizen or US Person (Green Card Holder) with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop computer programs, primarily using SAS/R to monitor data quality. Prepare and present educational trainings about NHSN to professional organizations and governmental bodies at national, state, and local levels. Assist/lead the development of new NHSN modules, providing subject matter expertise related to HAI surveillance and data validation. Identify and create necessary NHSN module/manual updates resulting from technological advancements, infection/disease trends, or yearly update of system components. Assist in NHSN data cleaning projects to improve the quality of NHSN product. Participate in temporary details as a part of epidemiological investigation, research and other technical assistance teams. Provide NHSN user support regarding procedures for correcting setting up facilities, applying CDC healthcare-associated infection (HAI) definitions and criteria, and data entry. Identify user/system issues requiring system modifications and prioritize, escalate and contribute to response. Analyze data for reports, presentations and publications Perform literature searches in fields including but not limited to Behavioral and Social Sciences, Epidemiology, and Laboratory, and prepare slides for scientific presentations. Provide analytic support to multi-disciplinary teams in order to accomplish public health research and program goals. Utilize qualitative and quantitative tools and materials in support of a data collection plan. Create presentations of data for scientific presentations, publications, and/or guidance documents. Explains complex concepts, ideas, and/or policies effectively to individuals and/or groups. Engages with the target audience and tailors evidence-based recommendations and/or health policy information to their needs with minimal supervision. Conducts user outreach and education and provides consultation and technical assistance to acute care provider groups, quality improvement organizations, and health departments in order to support their HAI prevention, surveillance, and response activities, and to meet NHSN data quality needs. Communicates with internal and client project team members. Works to influence team members regarding solution design, process, and/or approaches. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Public Health, or related quantitative or scientific discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree MS, MPH, MSPH, or related field) with 5+ years of relevant experience in R (Proficient, Intermediate to Advanced), and/or SAS Experience supporting public health surveillance, epidemiology, HAI prevention, population health, or healthcare data analytics initiatives. Experience in analyzing, validating, and interpreting large public health or healthcare datasets. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with HL7 FHIR (highly preferred) Experience working with statistical software programs such as Python, PySpark, SQL, and other data management tools. Strong oral and written communication kills in order to compile, organize, and present statistical information to various audiences as well as explain processes and choices as needed. Pay Range Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
