Maritime Civil Engineer

Maritime Civil Engineer Houston, Texas | Waves Group Consultancy Inc. Waves Group is looking for a Maritime Civil Engineer to join our growing Houston office and support our ports, harbours and maritime infrastructure work across the Americas. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing consultant with strong civil / structural engineering capability, good written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to work with clients, insurers, lawyers, port operators and contractors. The role will support our work in ports and harbours, marine infrastructure condition assessment, design review, claims assessments, project consulting and contract management. This aligns with Waves Group’s established ports and harbours services, including incident evaluation, port development design and construction, and project management. The Role and Opportunities By joining the team, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and be involved in:

  • Inspections, condition surveys and structural assessments of a wide range of existing port, harbour and marine facilities.
  • Civil and structural engineering assessments of maritime structures, including quay walls, jetties, dolphins, berths, breakwaters and all associated infrastructure.
  • Incident causation investigations, and damage assessments.
  • Site attendances to undertake forensic investigations and evaluation of maritime incidents and claims.
  • Liaison with insurance industry representatives, owners, and operators, for the management of remedial works, including contract management and supervision.
  • Preparing technical reports, design reviews, scopes of work, tender documents and contract documentation.
  • Developing client relationships and helping promote Waves Group’s civil engineering capability in the Americas.
  • Spanish language capability would be advantageous, particularly for work across the Gulf Coast, Central America, South America and Spanish-speaking jurisdictions. Project management experience would also be beneficial.

As part of the Waves Group Maritime Civils team, your role would be supported by comprehensive mentoring and training as part of the wider civils team. It would also involve the review of technical documentation, project leadership, client liaison and clear communication of complex technical matters to non-technical stakeholders. About you We are looking for someone who is:

  • A US citizen or otherwise able to access US port facilities without restriction.
  • A Civil, Structural or Maritime Engineering graduate.
  • A Registered Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or close to achieving PE / Chartered status.
  • Experienced in ports, harbours, maritime, waterfront or coastal infrastructure. Able to demonstrate sound engineering judgement.
  • Experienced in condition surveys, structural assessments and practical investigative site work. Comfortable preparing technical reports, tender documentation and contract materials.
  • Able to communicate clearly and to a high standard, both verbally and in writing.
  • A self-starter who demonstrates initiative, curiosity, adaptability and sound judgement and is capable of independent working.
  • Good with people and able to represent both our civils team and Waves Group professionally.
