About the Role

This opportunity is for a highly experienced cloud infrastructure leader responsible for driving the reliability, scalability, security, and long-term evolution of enterprise cloud platform systems. This role operates with a high level of autonomy and provides technical leadership across architecture, platform engineering, security, and cloud operations. The position plays a critical role in shaping cloud strategy, supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure, guiding engineering best practices, and influencing major architectural decisions across the organization. What You’ll Do Strategic Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Develop and execute long-term cloud architecture strategies aligned with platform scalability and business growth objectives
• Lead enterprise-wide cloud architecture reviews and establish governance standards, operational guardrails, and engineering best practices
• Evaluate emerging technologies including AI/ML infrastructure, platform engineering tools, and FinOps solutions
• Provide architectural recommendations and technical direction to senior engineering and executive leadership
• Serve as a senior escalation point for complex cloud infrastructure and architecture challenges
• Drive the transition from reactive infrastructure management toward proactive, resilience-focused platform engineering

Platform Engineering & Infrastructure

• Design, build, maintain, and monitor enterprise-scale cloud-based PaaS systems
• Architect highly available, fault-tolerant, geographically redundant, and multi-region infrastructure environments
• Lead the lifecycle management of cloud deployment systems and CI/CD tooling
• Continuously improve deployment speed, platform reliability, developer experience, and operational safety
• Design reusable infrastructure components and utility libraries used across engineering teams
• Build and oversee enterprise observability, metrics, monitoring, and alerting systems
• Support proactive incident response processes and SLA enforcement strategies

Security, Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure cloud environments comply with security standards, SOC 2 requirements, FERPA regulations, and applicable privacy standards
• Architect zero-trust networking environments and identity and access management frameworks
• Design and maintain encryption and cloud security controls across infrastructure systems
• Partner with Security and Legal teams to perform cloud risk assessments and remediation planning
• Address platform-level architectural vulnerabilities and strengthen overall infrastructure security posture

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Act as a senior technical advisor to Engineering, Product, and Executive leadership teams
• Translate complex technical tradeoffs into clear business impact and operational guidance
• Promote engineering best practices focused on scalability, reliability, operational excellence, and performance optimization
• Create training resources, operational playbooks, and cloud knowledge documentation
• Support organizational planning, infrastructure capacity modeling, and workforce strategy discussions
• Represent cloud architecture initiatives across cross-functional teams and strategic planning efforts

Mentorship & Team Development

• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Principal, Staff, and Senior Engineers
• Support engineering career development and technical growth initiatives
• Participate in hiring processes, technical interviews, and engineering calibration discussions
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide emergency production incident support when needed
• Model high operational standards and engineering excellence across infrastructure teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Master’s degree preferred
• 10+ years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or systems architecture
• 3–5+ years of experience operating at the Principal Engineer or Staff Engineer level
• Demonstrated ownership of enterprise-wide cloud architecture decisions
• Strong experience leading large-scale cloud migrations, modernization initiatives, or cloud transformation programs
• Experience working within high-growth SaaS environments preferred
• Experience in compliance-focused industries such as education technology or financial technology prefe
