Job Title: Business Editor and Reporter Job Type: Full-Time Location: New York City Salary: $50,000–55,000 Minimum Education: BA/BS/Undergraduate Reports To: News Director Publishers Weekly, the leading B2B publication serving the book publishing industry, is looking for a business editor and reporter. We have been around since 1872 and are dedicated to delivering high-quality journalism and fostering engagement with our audience through a dynamic website, email newsletters, a weekly print magazine, and an extensive presence across various social media platforms. About the Team: The Business editor and reporter will join a team that helms PW’s The Daily—a Mon–Fri newsletter with stories about the publishing industry. The team handles all of the online news and larger stories, as well as some weekly work for the print magazine. About the Role: PW is seeking an experienced Business editor and reporter to join the news team to report on the business side of the publishing industry. This would include producing both online and print articles focusing on those parts of the industry, including sales, profits, business mergers, and more. The ability to identify trends happening in the industry for larger stories is key. While that will be the core beat to cover, we would love to find someone who is interested in books, reading, and the larger publishing ecosystem. For this role, someone should bring a strong understanding of business fundamentals and company earnings statements, excellent writing skills, and the ability to quickly produce intelligent daily stories while also juggling longer-lead assignments. A willingness to help pitch in with edits as needed outside of the business beat is also imperative. This position is located in New York City with a hybrid in-person/remote workplace. Responsibilities:

  • Accurately write and report engaging and well-sourced news articles on a daily basis, both pitched and assigned, about the publishing business from financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions reporting, job moves, program launches, IPOs, reorgs, book sales, tech, and more while adhering to house voice and style.
  • Keep up-to-date on publishing industry news, specifically related to primary coverage area, to identify trends, as well as continue to make industry contacts for news scoops and exclusives.
  • Work with PW’s news director to define goals and priorities for your coverage area, as well as work closely with the rest of the news team to work on The Daily Mon–Fri and the weekly magazine.
  • Represent the brand in a public-facing way as necessary in press opportunities, panels, and speaking engagements.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit a résumé, cover letter, and 3–5 clips to [email protected]. Use "Business Editor and Reporter” in the subject line.
