We are seeking an experienced Actuary to support the Insurance Capital Standard (ICS) reporting function. In this role, you will be involved with the development, implementation and maintenance of an emerging group-wide capital regulatory requirement. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ICS requirements, strong quantitative skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex results to stakeholders at all levels, including our Japanese parent company, Sumitomo Life.What you will do

  • Design and implement processes for calculating and reporting on capital requirements under the ICS framework.
  • Enhance ICS calculations through the development, testing, and implementation of modeling improvements.
  • Design a movement of analysis, considering economic and non-economic factors to explain year-over-year results in capital movements.
  • Create analytical tools to assess capital requirements by product lines and evaluate the impacts of new reinsurance and capital solutions within the ICS framework.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, or enhancements to streamline calculation review and validation procedures.
  • Interpret and translate regulatory requirements into actionable plans while ensuring compliance with the ICS technical specifications.
  • Present and explain results and findings to senior management, Sumitomo Life, regulatory authorities, and other key stakeholders as needed.
  • Understand how Symetra’s business would be impacted by various types of scenarios and ensure that ICS modeling processes are capturing all material risks.
  • Communicate across departments to coordinate the delivery of key projects.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and other associates to stay informed of ICS developments, regulatory changes, and emerging industry practices.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure calculation methods and practices comply with regulatory requirements and identify corrective measures as needed.
  • Uphold professional ethics and integrity in actuarial work, ensuring adherence to internal organizational policies, external regulations, and professional standards.

CompensationSalary Range: $103,300 – $172,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus programsWho you areBachelor's degree or equivalent with strong quantitative background including college level mathematics.4+ years of insurance related actuarial experience.ASA designation required, may have FSA. 7 to 8 actuarial exams.

  • Strong communication skills, particularly as it relates to communication of technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Proven ability to communicate with senior leadership.
